Liberal Amnesty Granted…Time is Short
On August 1st of 2012 many Americans showed their displeasure with those in government who made it clear that, in their view, they are not constrained by something as petty and irrelevant as the US Constitution. Their actions should not be considered aberrations, nor can even the most strident supporters of the left claim that the officials in question were “misquoted” or “misunderstood”. Apparently the left has reached the point where the leadership feels that it can come out of hiding and make the final push against the American Dream. To most of us this comes as no surprise and is simply the logical next step to be taken by those who would stifle all opposition by any means necessary and at whatever cost to the rest of us.
The question which remains to be answered is whether a majority of the American electorate supports this move to a totalitarian state. In this new America there will no longer be any question of “who built that”, nor will there be any question as to which entity is the senior partner in whatever functioning enterprises remain. The hubris and arrogance of those involved is on display for all to see. One need not look back too many years to see a time when these same politicians would have summarily been run out of town.
Unfortunately there seems to be quite a bit of anecdotal evidence that a sizable minority of the population actually support the actions of these wannabe dictators. At this point it’s hard to say which of the two groups should be considered the most dangerous, but there is no doubt that both represent the possibility of some really ugly conditions in the future should either, or both, get their way. The fact that these particular elected officials believe that they are free to discriminate against those who profess certain American values, values which continue to be codified into law and are fully in concert with the opinions of the vast majority of the electorate, suggest a serious disconnect between their view of governance and their sworn duty to uphold the law. The fact that the left has been able to convince even a minority of people to support such actions, and even applaud them, suggests that simply relieving the officials of their official duties will not be enough to solve the problem.
Perhaps even more frightening, forget about disappointing, is the fact that the current President of these United States has evidenced no desire to support the applicable clauses of the Constitution which he, more than any other, is sworn to protect and defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The obvious fact that he sees this as a political question cannot be denied, nor can anyone seriously question which side of the issue he supports. The fact that he supports those who would ignore the Constitution should give all of us reason to pause. It would seem that he continues to see the world through a prism of us vs them and thus he shows no sign of understanding that his role is to be the President of the entire nation and that his primary allegiance is to be to the Constitution. This is not a question of personal choice, although he has shown no signs of understanding that point either, rather it is a requirement of the office for which he campaigned and, I can only assume, on a voluntary basis.
The good news in all of this is that the left has come out into the open. This is not to suggest that there have not been other occasions, as well as verbal warnings, which should have convinced even the most diehard supporters of the authoritarian nature of the movement, but here we have a case where the ugliness of the movement can no longer be denied.
As a result of the Chik-Fil-A series of events, I am extending an offer of amnesty to all those Liberals who heretofore have attempted to claim that the Left represented a vision which both embraced American Values and was supportive of the US Constitution. I also would like to suggest that all other conservatives think about making a similar offer. There will be no “I told you so”. There will be no repercussions of any kind. I welcome you back to the fold with open arms and will make no distinction between you and those who have been conservatives for days, months, or years. It isn’t conservative principles which you oppose, rather it is the conservative principles as defined by the very same left which is attempting to destroy the constitution which you question. Obviously this doesn’t apply to all of you, but at least now I know you are fully aware of the basis on which you have made your choice. At this point there is no longer any doubt that there is no difference between a liberal and a person from the left.
